Homemade Gifts for Mom

(This article, Homemade Gifts for Mom, is written for Mother's Day but you can also take the concept and use it for other loved ones and occasions in your life!)

This year, if you want to do something special for your mom, create a simple gift for her that tells her you care enough to spend time making a gift, rather than just purchasing something from a store. Then again, you can always do both!

Homemade Gifts for Mom: Photo FramesFor this project, you are going to write a personal letter or account of a special experience and place it on the back of a picture frame. The front should hold a picture like normal which covers up the letter.

The personal letter should be about something special that you want to relay to your mom without everyone else seeing it. That is the real gift you are giving your mom which is a secret for you two.

If you're interested in this Homemade Gifts for Mom project, read how easy this gift can be accomplished...

Materials

Make sure the size and direction of the following materials match...
  • a nice picture frame
  • a photo
  • optional: pretty stationary paper for the letter
  • wrapping paper - scissors and tape

Your Story

Since the story is the real gift you are trying to give your mother, you want to give speical care in writing it. Here are some suggestions for the topic:
  • Mother's Day is all about honoring someone, so honor your mother. What has your mother sacrificed for you or your family? How has her presence or teachings affected you? What do you love most about your mom?
  • Another direction would be to recount something happy that you've experienced with your mom.
  • Or create a "Mom ten years from now" prediction or scenerio.
  • If you have misunderstandings, regrets, pains, and anger that you want to make up for, you can also use the letter to clear them out between you and your mother.
Try the ideas that you think works the best for you and your mom.

Steps

  1. Buy/get the materials that you need.
  2. Write the perfect letter with your story on a word processor.
  3. Write or print the story down (on the stationary if you bought it). You can always hand decorate a blank piece of paper, too!
  4. Neat tape the letter on the back side the photo you have. Straighten it out.
  5. Slip the photo into the frame with the letter hidden in the back.
  6. Wrap up the present and make a note to tell your mother to look at the back when she's alone.
This is one of the easier homemade gifts for mom that you can make but definitely very memorable, so give it a try. See how you can tweak it to make it even more personalized.
