Here are some typical avenues fanfic writers use to add, subtract, revision their favorite stories:

Rewriting Ending

Ever got to the end of a story and hated the ending? Rewrite the ending of an existing story to the one you believe should-have-been. This is a fun and easy way to write a story.

Time Slots

With your story of choice, find a spot where you can fit in a little story of your own.

Example: In Three Little Pigs, we do not know what happens when the wolf makes his way to the third little pig. We see what the third little pig does but not the wolf. So you can enter a story about what the wolf did when he went to find the third pig.

This could be somewhat challenging but very popular amongst fan-fictions.

Character Spotlight

Have a character that you really like? Write a story with your favorite character as the main character (if he or she was not) or however you please.

You might want to keep the character’s personality very closely to the original personality.

Beyond

After the existing story ends, you can create more adventures or whatnot after the ending. Make your own sequel to the story.

Enter the World

Really love a story? Make yourself a character in the story wherever you want. Live the adventure yourself!
